LGBT History Month 2016

CHE was involved in a number of events for LGBT History Month 2016


Saturday 6 February:

LGBT History Festival London Hub:

11am to 5:45pm, Victoria and Albert Museum

A full day of free presentations and events, including CHE Treasurer Ross Burgess on "Forty years of making and recording history".


Saturday 6 February:

LGBT History Festival Yorkshire Hub:

11:15-17:30, De Grey Court, York St John University, Lord Mayor’s Walk, YO31 7EX

A day of free presentations, including CHE historian Peter Scott-Presland on "Heroes of the Evolution", a tribute to Robert Reid, lone voice for gay rights in the 1940s.


Monday 8 February:

Cutty Sark Tea Party:

2 to 4:30pm, The Cutty Sark, Greenwich SE10 9NT

Commemorating the lives and struggles of older LGBT people in Greenwich and beyond. Main speaker, Peter Scott-Presland.


Saturday 13 February:

LGBT History Festival Midlands Hub:

1:15 to 5:45pm, University Centre, Shrewsbury

An afternoon of free presentations, including Peter Scott-Presland on "Heroes of the evolution".

7:30pm, The Hive Cabaret, Shrewsbury: Peter Scott-Presland in "50 years a Queen" plus other acts.


Tuesday 23 February:

Amiable Warriors at the National Archives:

2 to 4pm, National Archives, Kew

Peter Scott-Presland on the early history of CHE.


Friday 26 February:

The second Allan Horsfall Lecture

The Martin Harris Centre, Manchester

The second annual lecture in memory of our founder. Given this year by Professor Susan Stryker from the University of Arizona, a leading expert in transgender studies. Part of the LGBT History Conference Reception & Regional Launch.


Saturday 27 February:

LGBT History Festival Manchester Hub:

10am to 6pm, People's History Museum Left Bank, Manchester M3 3ER

A full day of presentations and free events (Suggested donation £5). Ross Burgess was among the speakers.


27 and 28 February:

Academic Conference: 'What is & How to Do LGBT History?’

University of Manchester (Saturday); Manchester Metropolitan University (Sunday).

Peter Scott-Presland and Ross Burgess both spoke on Saturday.


Sunday 28 February:

Oxford University LGBT Society

Peter Scott-Presland on "Coming out in Oxford in the early 1970s".
